1. the uses of werden as a full verb
1.1 werden +
adjective, e.g.:
Es wird jetzt schon früh dunkel. (It's getting dark early now.)
Ich werde
verrückt. (I am going crazy.)
Die Fotos sind
gut geworden.
(The photos have turned out well.)
Er wurde
blass. (He went pale.)
1.2 werden + noun, e.g.:
Ich habe
gehört, Katharina wird Ärztin. (I have heard, Katharina will become a
doctor.)
Er ist ein wirklich guter
Musiker geworden? (He has
become a really good musician.)
Es wird
Winter. (Winter is coming.)
1.3 werden + the age of a person/animal
Sie
ist am Sonntag 60 geworden. (She turned 60 on Sunday.)
Am 18. November
wird er 39 Jahre alt. (He will be 39 on November 18th.)
2. "werden" is also an
auxiliary verb which is used

to form the future (I)
conjugated present tense of "werden" + the
infinitive of the main verb,
e.g.
Ich glaube, es wird heute
Nachmittag regnen.
(I think it's going to rain this afternoon.)
Wann
werden
die Menschen ihr Verhalten ändern? (When will people change their behaviour?)
Sie wird wohl wieder im Club sein.
(She'll probably be in the club again.)
2.2 to form the passive
voice
conjugated form of "werden" in the required tense
+ the past participle of the main
verb, e.g.
present tense: Der Bäume
werden diese Woche
gepflanzt. (The trees are planted this week.)
past tense: Der Bäume
wurden
letzte Woche gepflanzt. (The trees were planted last week.)
perfect tense:
Der Baum ist vor 5 Jahres
gepflanzt
worden. [not
"geworden", the actual past
participle of "werden"] (The tree was planted 5 years ago.)
2.3 to form the
subjunctive of other verbs, unless their
original subjunctive form is still in use
subjunctive of
"werden" + infinitive of the other verb,
e.g.
Würden Sie bitte das Fenster
öffnen?
(Would you please open the window?)
Wo
würdest du gerne
arbeiten? (Where
would you like to work?)
Ich würde lieber mit dem Zug
fahren. (I would
rather travel by train.)
