"sollen" is a so-called modal verb. It is normally used with another verb in the which goes to the of the clause. It "modifies" the meaning of that . "sollen" can be translated as "should" or as "to be to" or "to be meant to".
Der Arzt sagt, ich soll mehr Obst essen.
Das Hotel soll sehr schön sein.
Bis wann sollst du das Projekt fertig haben?
Die Mutter sagt: "Ihr sollt jetzt ins Bett gehen." Die Kinder sagen: "Warum sollen wir ins Bett gehen? Wir sind nicht müde."
Wann sollen Sie morgen ins Büro kommen, Frau Maier?
Er soll krank sein.
Warum sollen die Menschen weniger Fleisch essen?
