Study the sentences above. On the left-hand side, you see so-called yes/no-questions, i.e. questions which you can answer with a simple "yes" or "no". In English, a form of "to do" is nearly always needed to form a yes/no-question. In German, you simply start your yes/no question with the verb and continue with the subject (i.e. who or what performs the action expressed by the verb).
