  • "dürfen" is a so-called modal verb.
  • It is normally used with another in the infinitive which goes to the of the clause.
  • It "modifies" the meaning of that .
  • "dürfen" can be translated as "may" or as "to be to".
"Mama, dürfen wir schwimmen gehen?" - "Nein, es ist zu kalt."
Darf er in Deutschland bleiben?
Entschuldigung, aber Sie dürfen hier nicht fotografieren.
Das darfst du nicht machen. Das ist verboten.
"Dürft ihr in die Disko gehen?" - "Nein, leider nicht. Wir sind zu jung."
Er hat doch Diabetes. Darf er das essen?
"Dürfen die Kinder hier spielen?" - "Ja, natürlich. "
