The demonstration in Leipzig on September 4th 1989 was the first in a series of peaceful political protests against the government of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). They always took place on a Monday and therefore became known as the Monday Demonstrations.

What was the most famous chant during these demonstrations? It was supposed to remind the GDR leaders that a democratic republic has to be ruled by the people, not by an undemocratic party claiming to represent them.
