2. Adverbial conjunctions:
deshalb/deswegen/darum/daher/aus diesem Grunde (therefore, for
this/that reason)
trotzdem (in spite of this)
außerdem (besides/in addition)
weiterhin (furthermore/on top of that)
abgesehen davon//darüber hinaus (apart from that)
Adverbs of time (e.g. dann [then], danach [after that] have the same
effect on the word order as the adverbial conjunctions.
They form the first idea of a clause, therefore the
conjugated part of the verb must come next, e.g.
Er ist müde. Er geht jetzt ins Bett.
Er ist müde,
deshalb/deswegen geht er jetzt
ins Bett.
(He is tired, therefore he goes to bed now.)
Er ist müde. Er geht nicht ins Bett.
Er ist müde, trotzdem geht er nicht ins Bett.
(He is tired, despite that he doesn't go to bed.)
Er arbeitet als Kellner. Er bekommt etwas Geld von seinen Eltern.
